Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about children are discussed with parents and carers first unless we have a reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

If you are concerned about a child’s welfare, please record your concern, and any observations or conversations heard, and report to one of the DSL’s as soon as possible the same day. We would advise that you should not conduct your own investigation.
If your concerns relate to the actions or behaviour of a member of staff (which could suggest that they are unsuitable for work with children) then you should report this to one of the DSL’s in confidence, who will refer the matter to the Executive Head (or the Chair of Governors if the concern relates to the Executive Head) – who will consider what action to take.

Slough Safeguarding Children’s Board (SLSCB)
Slough Safeguarding Children’s Board (SLSCB) is the key statutory means to agree on how relevant organisations in Slough will work together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and to make sure this work is effective.
The board has an independent role to challenge partner organisations. It has an independent chair and membership is made up of senior managers from partner organisations. The independent chair is Nick Georgiou, who can be contacted at _SLSCB@scstrust.co.uk.
Partner organisations are under a legal obligation to support the board and have nominated representatives (senior managers) who can speak with authority and hold their organisation to account.
Section 11 of Children Act 2004 places a duty on key individuals and bodies to make sure their functions are discharged with regard to the need to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. The application of this duty will vary according to the nature of each agency and its functions.
Regulation 5 of the Local Safeguarding Children Board Regulations 2006 sets out the functions of the SLSCB are to:
- develop policies and procedures to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in Slough
- develop policies and procedures to guide any action to be taken where there are concerns about a child’s safety or welfare, including thresholds for intervention
- train those who work with children or in services that affect the safety and welfare of children
- to recruit and supervise those who work with children
- to investigate allegations on those who work with children
- check on safety and welfare of children who are privately fostered
- cooperate with neighbouring children’s services authorities and their Board partners
- communicate to persons and bodies in Slough, the need to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, raising their awareness of how this can best be done and encourage them to do so.
- monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of what is done by the council and their Board partners individually and collectively to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and advise them on ways to improve
- help to plan the services for children in Slough
- undertake reviews of serious cases and advise the authority and their Board partners on lessons to be learned.

Working with Vulnerable Children
Langley Hall Primary Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Mrs Catriona Eadie is our Head of Children’s Services and works with vulnerable children and their families to ensure that they enjoy the same positive experience of school that other children enjoy. A family may contact Mrs Eadie if they feel they would benefit from help, advice and guidance or a class teacher may recommend a child or parent to Mrs Eadie. The referral could be for a variety of reasons: family bereavement, family separation, concern for the wellbeing of a child or advice on financial management.
Langley Hall Primary Academy staff understand that children learn best when they are happy and, by addressing the needs of the whole family group, we hope that we can make a positive contribution to outcomes for children.
Our Lower School building is arranged on 2 floors. The Reception classes are downstairs giving them access to outdoor gardens and playgrounds. Years 1 and 2 are based in upstairs classrooms and there is no lift.
At Upper School most of the building has disabled access. There is a lift and stair lift available for children and adults enabling them to access all but 2 classrooms. Should a child or parent require wheelchair or disabled access classroom bases would be organised to make access possible.
Partnership with Parents
Partnership with parents is strong. The Executive Head and other professionals take every opportunity to explain the school’s principles and methods and encourage parents to support and take part in activities. There is a class intranet which enables parents to log in and check homework set, receive information on events, send emails to staff and see short daily videos of their children’s activities filmed by the class teacher.

- If this is not appropriate, contact a member of the Senior Management Team
- Finally, make an appointment to see the Head of Upper School; Head of Lower School or Head of Children’s Services
If it is connected with an administrative matter:
- Talk to the School Business Manager
If you wish to make a complaint about a teacher please contact to the Head of Upper School or Head of Lower School.
If you wish to make a complaint about the Head of Upper School, Head of Lower School, Head of Childrenâ€™s Services, or SENCO, please contact the Executive Head. If you wish to make a complaint about the Executive Head please contact the Chair of Governors by leaving a letter addressed to him with the school office and it will be forwarded to him. In order to ensure that it is not opened by staff, please mark your letter ‘Confidential’.
When a concern is expressed, either personally, by telephone, e-mail, via the school Laser or letter, we complete our own written record and these are filed and regularly reviewed. Concerns will be acknowledged within 24 hours during school term time and will deal with your concern as soon as possible and complete the process within 20 school days. If you are not happy with the written response to your concern, you are entitled to bring the concern again to a review panel comprising of two members of the Senior Management Team, not directly involved in the original complaint and a third person who is independent of the management and running of the school. You may be accompanied at this meeting if you wish. This panel will record their findings and recommendations and a copy will be given to the Governing Body, the Head of School and anyone complained about, as well as yourself. This process will be completed within two weeks of raising the original concern. We guarantee to keep your concern confidential.
